Lovely swear words

Swear words really don't have an offensive effect when written like this. Beautiful calligraphy by Seb Lester. Check him out at seblester.co.uk

Amazing sketchs

Found these beautiful sketches of wild animals then looked a little closer and realised the sketches are filled with drawings of destruction and poverty. Such a creative way to show the worst things to look at.

Busy bee

Been really busy at the moment, finally got a part time job placement with a company called Blank Canvas. We design hotel guides for international hotel chains. We also dabble in the advertising side of the company. All going well so far, and I am building up my experience.

Personal touches work!!

Received this in the post from and a fashion and clothing website…I had only bought a tshirt. The packaging was so well designed and organised with its own personal touches with a lovely postcard and peg. The little peg even has the name of the website stamped on it!! Impressed.

NIKE Basketball

Found these lovely designs on the network Behance, they have been designed by a agency called Vasava in Barcelona.  Vasava works for companies large and small, including well-known brands such as Nike, Rocawear, Adobe, Diesel, 55DSL, Mango, Budweiser and Red Bull. The studio's designers spend time on commercial work but also on awe-inspiring personal design, illustration and typography design that is displayed in exhibitions and books around the world. These designs above are for NIKE Basketball

2010-2011.

Lovely ink image making below, so simple but effective.

Waitrose Packaging

In 2005 Lewis Moberly created this new packaging for Waitrose for a re-launch of its rage of specialist pre-packed cheese and the resluts are simple, sophisticated and appetizing. The packaging is of course still modern today. Lewis Moberly are also responsible for the following Waitrose herbs packaging. The type is designed so perfect to fit in with the small packaging the herbs are in, I love the different phrases on each individual herb like they have different personalities.

My favourite and often award-winning food and drink packaging designs were and still are from the supermarket chain Waitrose in the UK. They always push the boat out for their packaging and it was always grabbing your attention and yet at the same time, simple and pleasing to the eye. Design companies that worked in the past on the Waitrose packaging included Lewis Moberly, Turner Duckworth, Bhavesh Chauhan, Swissmiss, Studio 176 to name but a few.

Simple yet effective

Spotted this packaging on a design blog and can't find anywhere who designed the packaging! I really like how simple this honey packaging is, it looks very natural and effective. It would obviously stand out on a shelf with all the current honey packaging at the supermarkets. Beautiful.

Stephan Sagmeister who?

The Cheltenam design festival is coming up this weekend and who is going to be headlining the whole event.....thats right, Stephan Sagmeister. Its just my luck that my current work (restaurant) have no idea who he is, thus meaning I can't book it off work. The sooner I get a job in design the better!!! Obviously still looking, no luck yet.

Nice design

Found these on a website I'm addicted too at the moment called 'Type for now'. Here is a great project by the Glasgow based design studio KVGD (Kerr Vernon Graphic Design).Kerr has teamed up with Glasgow Press to produce these wonderful letterpress postcards that feature songs by some of their favorite Glasgow bands. The piece is for sale for the fine price of £3 and all proceeds go toBarnardo’s Childrens Charity, which is just a fantastic cause.

Nice type

Just been watching the brit awards and noticed 'blurs' typeface. I really like how the type still looks contemporary after 20 years in the music business.

Who needs Instagram?

I was in scotland last weekend and we found some amazing old photos from when I was little. From the top there's my lovely cousin Pamela, then there's my beautiful auntie Kathleen (her hair is amazing!) and finally at the bottom myself looking rather cheeky. I love the vintage look of the old school disposable cameras. Who needs Instagram?!?

Is Drawing Dead?

This February the Yale School of Architecture will host “Is Drawing Dead?,” a symposium that considers the present and future role of drawing in the architectural profession.
Pentagram’s Michael Bierut and Yve Ludwig have designed a poster for the event using the simple design parameters of the series of posters we’ve designed for Yale since 1998: black, white and type. Here, a broken pencil takes the form of a “Y.” And yes, the poster was originally conceived with a hand-drawn sketch.

More4 rebrand.

Man Vs Machine says the project was prompted by a change in programming to make the channel more lifestyle-focused. The consultancy was appointed to the work following a pitch last autumn.Man Vs Machine founder Mike Alderson says, ‘We’ve used 15 triangles to make up the new brand. It comes to life by inhabiting real world spaces.’ In idents, these include Dungeness beach in Kent and Victoria Park, London. Alderson says the brand’s appeal comes from it being ‘satisfying’ rather then being ‘all singing and all dancing’. He says this brings ‘an honesty’ to the on-screen idents. Man vs Machine turned to Jason Bruges Studio, tasking it with animating the triangular shapes in the channel idents.

Had my first interview for digital design agency, check it out!!

http://madebyfudge.com/

All of their work is digital based, not an area where my work has great strength in,  they were looking for a concept based graphic designer. Interview went well, fingers crossed!!!

Home made pizzas

On a boring sunday evening, what else does a unemployed designer do to show their creativity.....in my case making home made pizzas. Never done this before but they turned out pretty good!! It was surprisingly cheap to make 4 pizzas, better than the pizza takeaways I am used too!

New Years Resolutions!!

I am a big believer in the 'new year, new me' phrase, although I don't want to be as drastic as that. I have made a few new years resolutions and I am determined to stick to them....

1. See my family more.
2. Become the graphic designer I can be_one foot in the door!
3. STOP borrowing money.
4. Aim for London!!

However, I do make resolutions every year, some I stick too so lets hope all these do!!!

Few pictures from my summer travels.

Working the summer in Ibiza has to be the best things I have ever done, so here's just a few pictures of the islands best parts with the best people.
